I live in Iowa, so I like to bitch about the weather a lot.
I’ve been married to the same guy for 30 years. We are pretty much on the opposite ends of Things-I-Like-O-Meter. We’re still getting used to each other. That’s what I say.
I’m 55 and not sure exactly how I feel about that. Most of the time I think it’s ok. Maybe. But more and more I’m checking out people’s ages like I used to check out who’s the fattest…which I never really cared about per se…as long as it wasn’t me. Now, it’s getting weirder and weirder to be one of the oldest ones in any given group of women.
Pretty much everything I write these days has some connection to my age, weight, marriage, kids, house, or childhood angst.
I’ve been writing for years and have had a few little things published. So far no Pulitzer.
I am a Christian for real and for good, but I also have the smart ass gene so the rude words and salty talk you might hear from me aren’t my fault.

I enjoy reading your blog so much. It helps pass the time that I should be getting organized, cleaning, doing paperwork, and cooking dinner. Oh well, if it wasn’t this it would be something else less funny. Love you sis, your such a hoot. Who new we had so many of the same genes!

Ran across your blog looking for more blogs by women over fifty. I have one of my own that is dedicated to women’s issues over fifty.
I would love any tips or advice you can offer.
P.S. I love your smart-ass gene. I’ve got my share as well.

[...] Cherie Bell has turned me on to some Anne Lamott books lately and I’ve taken to reading a few of them. One of them, entitled Bird by Bird is a hilarious and extremely entertaining book on writing, as in, how to do it, and life in general. [...]

Hey Mags!
Glad you’re enjoying Lamott…I love her too! Her book Traveling Mercies is another great one. And she’s written some fiction…a few novels, which I’ve read but can’t recall right now. Bird by Bird taught me so much about honesty and writing as work and craft and taking the time to really see INTO things, rather than just blabbing my blabber…which, of course, I still do…but still…at least I KNOW better now!

Hi Cherie! I love reading your blog and especially your funny talk about “gittin’ jiggy” and the description you used to paint a picture of your old house in Lowden. It was nice seeing you at the market yesterday and I’ll look forward to our visit to your new home.
